Deadvlei is a white clay pan located in the Namib-Naukluft National Park. It is surrounded by the highest sand dunes in the world, reaching upward to 300-400 meters.

Namibia is known for its red sand dunes. During our visit in 2013, we were fortunate to witness a rarity in Deadvlei: RAIN!! This gallery contains images made on that rainy morning and are nothing like the bold orange and blue iconic images of the area frequently seen. They are instead made up of magical soft pastel colors seen only during very rare foggy, rainy conditions.

An intriguing relic from the past, Kolmanskop was once a thriving diamond mining town. Abandoned after WWI, the town is slowly being engulfed by the ever shifting sands of the Namib Desert.

The Namib desert is one of the oldest deserts in the world. We made 2 flights over this vast area- 1 by flightsee plane and 1 by helicopter. The images in this gallery were made on these flights.

Roughly 50, 000 square km of the Namib Desert make up the Namib-Naukluft National Park which is home to the tallest sand dunes on earth. The park was established in 1907.
